Zandvoort aan Zee is a beach town on the North Sea coast, 40 km from Amsterdam. It is often called Amsterdam’s beach. Despite the distance, you can reach it in just 30 minutes by direct train from Amsterdam Centraal.

Travel from Amsterdam to Zandvoort by train
Travelling from to Zandvoort by train is the fastest option, especially in the weekends or during events in summer.
Train departure times: direct trains from Amsterdam Centraal to Zandvoort aan Zee depart every 30 minutes. In July and August there are additional trains. Check departure times at NS.nl.
Travel time: 30 minutes.
Train ticket price in 2026: one-way train ticket from Amsterdam Centraal to Zandvoort aan Zee costs € 6,90 + € 1 for a disposable train card (you don’t need to pay it if you book train tickets online).
The Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket is also valid both in the train and on the bus between Amsterdam to Zandvoort. You can also use this pass to travel to many other popular places around Amsterdam – Zaanse Schans, Volendam, Edam, Haarlem, Keukenhof and other.

Travel from Amsterdam to Zandvoort by bus line 80
You can travel to Zandvoort from Amsterdam by Connexxion bus line 80, departing from Elandsgracht. It’s a direct bus but it’s pretty slow.
Travel travel time to Zandvoort by bus: 1 hour 7 minutes.
Check departure times and buy your bus tickets via the 9292.nl website or app.
One more ticket option is the Amsterdam Beach Tour ticket valid on Connexxion bus lines 80, 81, 300, 346, 382, 385 and 397. Amsterdam public transport ticket (GVB) is not valid on the bus line 80.
Travel from Amsterdam to the beach by car
Driving from the center of Amsterdam to the beach by car takes 40 – 45 minutes. Check Google Maps for directions.
It’s good to know that on a sunny summer day there is a high chance for long traffic jams. Some parts of the N200 road from Haarlem to Zandvoort have only one lane in each direction, and the amount of parking slots near the coast in Zandvoort is also limited. So getting to Zandvoort by car and finding a parkins spot can be tricky.
