Volendam is a traditional fishing village, so we definitely recommend trying a fish restaurant. If you’re in a hurry and want something to take away, we suggest De Haven, a popular fish spot on the main promenade.

My tip! If you have time for a relaxed lunch or dinner with a view, Smit Bokkum, an eel restaurant just outside the busy tourist area. It’s my favourite place to eat in Volendam. Many locals travel from different parts of the Netherlands to dine here, so be sure to make a reservation in advance.
