You can travel from the center of Amsterdam to the airport by Niteliner N97 operated by Connexxion company. The ticket costs € 6,50.

 

FAQ about night buses in Amsterdam

Do night buses in Amsterdam run on Christmas and New Year’s night?

On the night of 24 to 25 December, only night buses N85 (CS – Gein) and N87 (CS – Bijlmer ArenA Station) will run once an hour.

On the night of 25 to 26 December, all night buses will run once an hour, except for night bus N86 (Bijlmer ArenA Station).

During New Year’s Eve from 31 December to 1 January, all night buses will start between 01:30 and 02:00 and then run according to the normal weekend timetable.

On New Year’s night, the night buses from Amsterdam Centraal Station depart from the bus platform on the IJ side from 1:30. A number of night buses will follow a adjusted route. You can find more information at GVB.nl.

Do trams and metros run all night in Amsterdam?

No. Amsterdam’s trams and metro stop running shortly after midnight and resume around 07:00. During the overnight hours, GVB night buses provide public transport across the city until daytime services start again.

Can I use a GVB day ticket on Amsterdam night buses?

Yes, GVB day and multi-day tickets are valid on all GVB night buses, so you don’t need to buy a separate night bus ticket. However, they are only valid on GVB services and not on buses operated by other companies.

Can I pay with a bank card on Amsterdam night buses?

Yes, y can use OVpay to check in and out with a contactless debit card, credit card or your phone on Amsterdam night buses. You’ll pay the night bus fare, not a normal distance-based fare. In 2026 it’s €5,70.

Can I take a night bus to Schiphol Airport?

Yes. You can take the N97 Niteliner, which connects Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport during the night when bus 397 is not running. It follows a similar route and operates throughout the night.
